Being at an exciting juncture...
Hello everybody,
it has been ages since I last did a blog post! Sometimes, however, life just takes over ;) As you might have read in one of the last posts, my husband and I launched "Simple Jerky" here in Austria and both of us were very busy with that. So, in a way, photography took the back seat - but not entirely!
I have worked continually on BusyBee for a few years now, learning my craft, finding my style, getting my images out there, securing agency contracts, and working on assignments. I focused on more traditional styles of photographing, learning how to get the perfect, "clean" stock shot of many different subjects for either my clients or my agencies. I needed a change from that, something that would keep my "eye" fresh for everything else I am doing.
Finally, a time came when I started to re-evaluate the direction I was going. One week in September gave me an opportunity. I came down with something like the flu and that same week my computer broke. It was the PERFECT time to take a step back and do some thinking!
Soon I had two important realizations - 1) that I am dabbling into too many areas of photography at the same time and 2) that the little artist in me was slowly falling into a coma ;). There needed to be more balance, more art, more freedom, less pressure, and lots of NEW STUFF! That same week, I started to take classes in an area of photography that had always interested me but I thought I could never do - Fine Art Portraiture. Two friends of mine eagerly volunteered to be my models, helping me with my nerves and fear of photographing people (yes, I have that). As soon as my health and my computer were back on track we ventured out into the woods, fields and to an abandoned house....and had fun. No questions asked, they jumped around in fields, climbed trees, got wrapped in fabric, and jumped out windows. Ok, forget the last one ;)! I came back with hundreds of images that have a style and are a type of photography that was both entirely new in my portfolio and absolutely exciting!
Since then, we have done a few more shoots and I am getting closer and closer to the launching of my new website which, of course, I will announce here as well as on my Facebook page.
Here are a few behind-the-scenes images from some of these shoots:

I am 100% excited about this whole new world of photography I'm discovering right now! I also found out, though, that my creative muscles needed practicing and that concepts don't always come easily. But what was once strictly a stock photography studio, starts to look like the wardrobe and prop room of a theater and the pin boards in my office are filling with sketches for future shoots.
To make a long story short, I'm re-evaluating my business, my photography in almost every area. And even though it is daunting at times, it feels great and I'm grateful to be working in a field that allows me to re-define what I am doing! This process is not over yet and sometimes I struggle. But I cannot wait to see the end results and how my days will look like in the new year!
Since there IS a COMMENT option BELOW my posts here, why not make use of it!
My questions to you are: Have you ever been at a stage in your professional - artistic or non-artistic - life that required you to change direction? How did you experience this process? What advice would you give to everybody out there who is at this point right now?
