Launching Simple Jerky
Hello everybody!
Yet again, I have pretty exciting news to share: My husband and I have been busy launching his very own brand and product!!!
One of Austria's first handmade and 100% natural beef jerky products! There is absolutely no chemistry involved, no artificial whatever-kinda-stuff-that-you-cannot-even-pronounce. Just pure Austrian beef and a couple of high-quality spices.
So how did we come up with this idea? Simple. My husband introduced me to beef jerky over in the US and I loved it as much as he did. After our move back to Europe we started to miss a few food items that were so much part of our diet in the States but we couldn't get here. One of these was beef jerky. Everything else we could find somewhere but not the jerky. During the winter months of 2013/14 we were craving it so much that one day, out of pure jerky desperation, we bought some good meat, sliced it and spiced it and stuck it into a regular oven. Came out good and everybody liked it. The idea to bring really good, high-quality beef jerky to the masses was born and with this Simple Jerky.
Now the work started - working on recipes, spice combos, finding packaging, a butcher through whom we could produce, designing labels and the logo etc etc etc. But here we are with a finished product that looks good and tastes GREAT. There is still a lot to do but Simple Jerky is now available online and at select markets around here!
Last week, we did the product shots. I have to tell you (and every fellow photographer will agree with me here) beef jerky is one of THE most difficult foods to photograph! It's dried meat, so ... let's face it - it just won't ever look as good as, say, a cutesy little cupcake or a nice colorful pasta dish. From a technical standpoint, it is dark. Too dark for easy metering and exposure. We got it done though and I have to say in all modesty that beef jerky has rarely looked better in a photo ;) You can see some more shots here!
